Mumbai, Jul 10 (UNI) The agitating members of 'Kachra Vahatuk
Shramik Sangh' have postponed their plan to hold their agitation over
non-payment of salaries after Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)
Chief Jairaj Phatak assured them that he would consider their demands.
The agitators had earlier demonstrated in front of Grant Road station in
south central Mumbai and threatened to go to the Commissioner's house
to have dinner to press for their pending demands.
Ganeral Secretary of the Sangh, Milind Ranade said Mr Phatak had decided
to clear all the dues of the contractual conservancy workers by paying
them Rs 127 per day as wages as per the terms of the contract.
According to the 1,200 agitators, they are being paid Rs 1,800 to Rs
2,400 as against the promised amount of Rs 3,937 per month.
